Perennials
This photograph seemed to me like it offered one way to illustrate my installation's title, The Year of Six Seasons. A tree, half-covered in show, half-covering a headstone. It is hard to decide who is the subject of the photograph, and what time each subject belongs to, besides of course the present moment. In the end, it has me oscillating between past and present tense. The photo is taken in the cemetery where my grandparents are buried in Oslo, on an icy February day. When I came across this scene, I felt an spark of liveliness.
I tested printing this photo on many different papers. Ultimately, the soemwhat transparent vellum carried the liveliness the most.
