Process

I began thinking about The Year of Six Seasons in 2016, but back then it was just the sound of the words together and certain hues. I always hoped to explore it and find out what it meant. The moment came when I visited the ECA Gallery in 2023–the room with it's high ceilings and big windows felt like a perfect space to stage my question.

The installation is comprised of paintings (primarily egg tempera) and photographs (printed on rice paper, vellum and chiffon). I suspended 11 cables across the gallery so that the work could hang from above, creating a layered installation for the viewer to wind their way through and around.

I feel so much gratitude to everyone who saw the show and supported the process. It was brought to life by many, in particular Katie Armstrong, Nicola Beuscher, Berit Engen, Steve Gevinson, Julie Elise Hauge, Emma Hurst, Gauthier Lesturgie, RJ Messineo, and Aileen Murphy. I printed most of the photographs at The Vermont Center for Photography–it is an incredible resource, and the people who work there are top knotch. The Easthampton City Arts Gallery was so generous with their space and trust, especially Pasqualina Azzarello for her support and attention. Everyone in the building does so much to support the gallery: thank you to the CitySpace folks, and a huge thank you to Jean Pierre and Rachel at Big Red Frame.
